11.1. Design and technical characteristics

Design and technical characteristics

Electric equipment is 12-voltny, with minus conclusions to weight. The rechargeable battery is recharged from the generator of alternating current with the belt drive and the built-in regulator of tension.

Starter with preliminary gearing: the traction relay enters the leading gear wheel into gearing with a gear wreath before giving of tension on the starter engine.

In the present section the repair technique is given though in certain cases more favorable happens entirely to replace units with worn-out knots.

Each 16000 km of a run check operation of all units of electric equipment and level of electrolyte in the rechargeable battery. If necessary add electrolyte. At the same time check wear of brushes of a screen wiper and replace them in case of need.

Electric equipment type: 12 V, negative conclusions to weight.

Maintenance of the rechargeable battery

The standard battery has the automatic device for prevention of a modulation of electrolyte. If the level of electrolyte is lower than the top tag put on the forward party of the battery remove jellied traffic jams or a cover and add the distilled water prior to filling with water of cavities over rubber traffic jams (see fig.). At such level filling of elements and a covering with electrolyte of separators of plates is provided.

Maintain purity of the top surface of the battery, without allowing a congestion on it of dust and moisture which cause a partial self-discharge of the battery over time.

Check lack of corrosion of brackets and the platform of fastening of the battery. At detection of traces of corrosion remove the battery, remove corrosion products, process the struck surface the corresponding anticorrosive structure and put a paint coat of initial color.

Every time at removal of the battery check it for existence of cracks and a leak. Cracks can appear in winter time at a doliva of the distilled water after driving, but not before departure. In this case the water which was not in time to mix up with electrolyte freezes and breaks off a battery tank wall. Cracks of a tank can be closed up the corresponding structure, however it depends on tank material. If from one of accumulator elements electrolyte flowed out, fill in it with fresh electrolyte.

Excessively high level of electrolyte at the intact tank of the battery testifies to a recharge of the battery and possible malfunction of the regulator of tension.

At a small annual run of the car it is recommended to check each three months electrolyte density for definition of degree of state of charge of the battery. For check use the areometer inserted through a rubber stopper, comparing the received results to the data given below:

Surrounding temperature of 25 °C

  • full charge

1,270 — 1,290

  • charging for 70%

1,230 — 1,250

  • full category

1,110 — 1,130

It is necessary to remember that graduation of the areometer is made for temperature of electrolyte of 15 °C. Therefore subtract from the measured value 0,007 on each 10 °C lower than 15 ° and add 0,07 on each 10 °C of excess of temperature of 15 °C.

If the condition of the battery causes in you suspicions, check first of all electrolyte density in each element. The difference in 0,040 or more between any elements demonstrates loss of electrolyte or deterioration in a condition of plates.
